#01 Cedar Mill

After living in their Northwest Portland home for 20 years, these homeowners were ready to move forward with a remodel they’d been considering for more than a decade. They loved the home’s Northwest Contemporary architecture, original layout, and the neighborhood they planned to stay in long term, but time had taken its toll.

The original kitchen appliances were failing, including a refrigerator that had quietly turned into pantry storage. The primary bathroom felt awkward and disconnected, and finishes throughout the home were overdue for an update. They partnered with Mountainwood Homes to guide a whole-home remodel that respected what already worked, like the round kitchen skylights and banquet footprint, while thoughtfully reworking the spaces that didn’t

The scope included new flooring, tile, cabinetry, drywall, paint, a reimagined kitchen, and a redesigned primary bathroom and closet. Material selections such as real terrazzo tile, walnut cabinetry throughout, and natural stone kitchen countertops with a full-height backsplash reinforced the home’s Northwest Contemporary roots while elevating the overall feel.

The finished home balances a dark, moody aesthetic with high-end appliances and tailored details, creating a space designed for everyday living and future family gatherings without losing the character that made the home worth staying in.
