#02 Cedar Mill

This 1977 Northwest Portland home was remodeled to create a quiet, comfortable place to relax and recharge.

The homeowners began a phased remodel in 2018, updating the kitchen, living room, family room, powder bath, and laundry. Several years later, they returned to Mountainwood Homes to plan phase two, which included adding a primary suite, updating the hall bath, and relocating the laundry room.

After reviewing several layout options, they initially chose a smaller addition designed to fit their initial budget. Shortly after, they realized it would not provide the space they wanted and that the added square footage and connection to the backyard were worth the investment. They ultimately expanded the addition, creating a primary suite that truly felt like a retreat.

The new primary suite is filled with natural light and connects directly to the backyard through large windows and exterior doors. Vaulted ceilings add to the open, airy feel. The primary bathroom is designed as a calming escape, featuring a curbless walk-in shower, double vanity, freestanding tub, and walk-in closet.

The adjacent spaces were updated to improve the home's flow, and the laundry room was relocated and redesigned with additional storage. The original laundry room was converted into a mudroom off the garage, completing a remodel that feels thoughtful, cohesive, and easy to live in.
