#06 Multnomah
The owners of this 1922 bungalow in the SW Portland Maplewood neighborhood, were frustrated with their kitchen feeling disjointed, lacking functional storage and counter space. Finishes were failing and lighting not operational. The back mudroom felt cold and dingy, and the back entry nook deemed unusable due to its awkward size. Avid cooks and enthusiastic entertainers, this family dreamed of a space that could seamlessly support both busy weeknight meals and summer gatherings. Incorporating a main-floor laundry room was also high on their wish list.
Recraft went to work bringing their vision into reality, building a dream kitchen and laundry for this family of four. By removing the walls between the mudroom, back entry, and kitchen, the team expanded the kitchen while converting the mudroom into a bright, organized laundry room. A new exposed beam, wrapped in cherry veneer, carries the load while adding warmth and visual interest. Natural light was paramount, addressed with full-lite glass doors at both entries and a tapered skylight drawing light from above. An impressive hydraulic window at the sink creates a pass-through to the exterior bar for entertaining. A large, family-friendly island provides abundant storage, a generous quartz countertop, and wrap-around seating. Professional grade appliances line the perimeter, while extensive countertop space provides a functional workspace for the whole family. A combination of rich PNW evergreen and warm white blend seamlessly with a custom wood hood brightening the kitchen on the cloudiest days. This stunning kitchen will be loved for years to come.
